Link to Walk Programme

Prior to viewing our walks programme we would like to draw your attention to the conditions relating to our attendance of our walks.

  • Newcomers on walks are always welcome, but after three walks will be expected to join The Ramblers’ Association.

  • All walkers must wear appropriate footwear and clothing relative to the conditions likely to be experienced.

  • Walkers should bring any food and drink required for the duration of the walks including packed lunches when appropriate.

  • Dogs are not permitted on walks.

  • All walks depart promptly at the times shown.

  • The approximate length of all walks is shown against each entry throughout the programme.

  • Walks have been graded to give a general guide to their nature. The length of walks should also be taken into account, together with the weather preceding and on the day of the walk.

G1 = Walking is over fairly level land with some gentle rises and falls. Paths are distinct.

G2 = Walking is more demanding with some moderate ascents and descents. Walking is usually along clearly marked paths and tracks.

G3 = Walking is more energetic with some fairly steep ascent and descents. Again tracks will normally be distinct, but sometimes rough and stony.

G4 = Walking will be quite strenuous with steep and at times rough off-path ascents and descents.

For more information, speak to the walk leader.

The Ramblers’ Association cannot accept responsibility for loss, damage or injury incurred on any walk or other activity.

WALKING BLACK SPOTS IN THE VALE OF GLAMORGAN

Though there have been big improvements in the condition of the Vale's Rights of Way during the past 15 years, no Vale Rambler needs telling that there are still difficulties in many places. This is in spite of efforts at clearance by our group members and, of course, by parties organised by Valeways.

Difficulties range from illegal barbed wire and electric fencing, padlocked gates, rampant vegetation growth and in season, crops, even trees, being grown directly over public footpaths.

The responsibility for such blockages is in the first place that of the landowner, but the Vale Council must take its share of blame for not enforcing the law that exists that would prevent such blockages arising or at least not lasting long.

Examples of blockages or extreme difficulty in walking include:
NB All Grid Refs relate to Explorer 151

1. Llwyn Du (G R 0277)

Footpaths around this house were diverted in 1994 (Tom Jones) but changes still not shown on Explorer 151. Current paths were cleared earlier this year, but check condition before walking them. For e.g. blackthorn & brambles grow very quickly here.

2. Wick G R 9272.

Bull has now gone but walking around caravan complex remains unpleasant.

3. North of Bonvilston G R 0674

The footpath that runs from Lillipot south to the church in Bonvilston has had one section excavated away.It is now impassable. Use the FP that runs west to east from G R 061743 to 066745 to avoid the blockage.

4. Footpath at level crossing Sutton house G R 944723 (South of Llandow).

The FP here was blocked up by Network Rail. I understand that after representations this blockage is being cleared. The path should be perfectly usable again.

5 Footpath running south west from Llangan to Crack Hill G R 9577 is still difficult to negotiate.

There are fences and other obstructions blocking the route.

6. North of Rhoose in Grid Square 0567.

Here regularly in summer the path round the airport's perimeter fence is blocked by dense cropping.

7. Llanmaes.

There are several blockages in Froglands farm area.

8. South east of Welsh St Donats

The footpaths in the Pwll y Darren, Penffordd, Maes y Ward area are blocked by a miscellany of locked gates, fencing, inadequate stiling, and cropping.
